The Right Moves

Before Sam’s prom Dean went looking for a hooker.

It took time, street corners and clubs to find her.

“Hey darlin’, ” Dean drawled, because she was perfect, aging and faded from her former glory of nights on the arms of wealthy men.

She licked her lips, named her price, and Dean brought her to Sammy, in a motel that matched her shabby glamor.

She taught them to dance, and smiled when Sam led his brother in a passable rumba. Later, Sam cussed when Dean insisted they practice together.

Sometimes, when they’re alone, they still dance. Sam leads and Dean follows.

~end~

RL and Christmas have been conspiring to keep me from my keyboard and it sucks. I haven't even had time to read much so I have been admiring various authors drabbles. Ever since I discovered that a drabble is exactly 100 words I have been trying to get my head around HOW? How do they do it, and so well? The hardest thing I find to write i short and since that would seem the most appropriate type of writing to practise right now I decided to have a go, but I didn't have a topic. Then derekthereindeer n Tumblr mentioned that they were reading fanfic and J2 were dancing and they just couldn't imagine that far. It occurred to me that I can, really can .. and not only that, but with Sam and Dean and the whole no personal space issue, plus their fighting being almost like a dance itself I can actually stretch my imagination to Sam and Dean dancing together. So yeah. I tried and I got exactly 100 words. (in the end!)

*Fic. Rec Following on from this, after a discussion with [livejournal.com profile] sammichgirl about my headcanon for the actual prom - and the bitter Rachel Neve/Dean event - she has a written a wonderful (angsty) one-shot here which gives the story how I thought it might have happened.

Drabbles are my new favorite thing. I don't think mine are that fantastic, but challenging myself to tell a story in 100 words is kinda awesome, 'cause I'm a wordy girl.

I did a story that was 10 different drabbles. Each one could stand alone, but they did flow. And for Christmas, I'm posting a double drabble (coming soon to a journal near you.)

This was excellent, though! I think the thing about them is that it gives you more questions in the end, but you already know the answers based on the content.

Great job!

Thank you! You were the one who inspired me to finally have a go, I do love yours. I'm looking forward to your Christmas ones. I am thinking that drabbles might be very good for making a wordy person like me focus. It was surprising how much back story I had in my head for so few words in the end.

Wow, I cannot imagine being inspiration for anyone, that really made my day!

Drabbles are very good for focusing. So much relies on every word, and I love to use my words.

I'm finding I want to write and have some time to do so, and need prompts, 'cause my head is either to full to find something or empty. LOL.

:D Hmm. I'm pretty hopeless at prompting or being prompted. One little head cannon that occurred to me when I was writing this was the incident of Dean stealing Rachel (?) Sam's prom date - which has been alluded to a couple of times and Lucifer implied she had been a demon. I have it in my head that in actual fact Rachel threw herself at Dean, hoping to cause trouble and Dean tricked her into the impala, drove her to the edge of town and then threw her out in disgust - but of course Sam had seen, believed the worst, his night was already ruined and Dean let him believe she was hard to win over rather than the alternative of him knowing that she was trying to ditch Sam. Of course the same harm was done whatever, Lucifer won :( So there you go - the only prompt I can think of, but it would be nice to see.
