Has anyone on my f-list had problems with editing and posting lately - missing letters and random format changes.
If so, did it get resolved and how?

I have some fic -and with the current situation I just can't post it here (If you want to see what I mean look at the mess which is  my masterlist since I added the latest drabble) *sniff*

*EDIT* I had a reply from LJ support which acknowledged the problem as one of the reasons they did maintenance last week - and it was to do with using several servers for a task in peak periods - so while it should now be fixed - I'm thinking that one resolution may be to edit in non-peak times if there was an issue. They did also send through a back-up copy of my master list from before my edits - I lost the comments but it would have been a stupid amount of work to mend. The copy has posted and edited perfectly - so if anyone else has a majorly screwed up post, then it wouldn't harm to contact support and ask for a copy :)

I had that yesterday when I posted a new chapter of trade. Try going to the 'Old style" format style instead of the new (I didn't try that then, I just thought of it now) but in the new style everytime you change font styles or add a link it goes nuts. The stuff looks okay on the left tab but when you go into the html tab you see all the missing letters.

The only way I solved it was to have two windows open. One with my story as posted and the second page with the html and I would search through the html for the broken words and fix them on the code side. Fixing them on the 'easy editor tab' didn't work. You need to track down every time you shift from bold to italics or regular, that error will happen and adding a link give you the 'irreparable markup error' so I hard coded those as well.

I think LJ must have done a new 'snazzy' update.

Sheesh, do they not check what happens when they do this stuff? I think my initial thoughts on that are - f*ck it! I don't have the patience or enough understanding to play like that so if it doesn't improve I'll put it on Dreamwidth. Grrr. Honestly I thought the hard part was supposed to be writing it! You are a complete trooper. hang on ....Trade?? I was supposed to go back to read that ... gotta dash!

Edited to add: No changing to the old format makes it so much worse!Don't be tempted.

I've noticed while reading the xmas exchange fics that many first letters seem to have fallen out. I thought maybe everyone was trying to use some kind of cool drop cap feature that was failing? But, I had no problem figuring out who ensen was :D

I haven't posted in a few days though so I haven't noticed the problem in my own stories.

I just posted a little fic thing in the old-style window, and I don't think I had a problem. Look it over and see. I've been awake since 2:30 and my eyes are crossing. If there isn't a problem then, as MV said, that may be the solution.

Weird - I tried in new style and it messed up, then old style and it messed up worse. Yet I posted old style just now and the only issue was that the colored text showed up normal.I'm wondering if it is more to do with time/how busy the server is or something. NO reply from support at all, - so yep, another pissy LJ user.
But hey it's Christmas and Santa has stockings to fill. Have a wonderful day with your family. It's definitely the children who make the day.

It's been doing it to me for ages. At first I thought it was because I was using LJ on my phone, but then realised that it was the web version not the app. I made changes 3 times before it actually took hold. I did it in HTML tabs in the end. LJ is getting worse, I swear! :s

it's the lack of response which pisses me off most. We don't know if they're even trying to fix it *sigh*

Now I'm noticing it in my stories--I've been combing through them while posting to AO3--and I'm so PISSED! I freaking hate typos and now for all my edits and re-edits, it looks like I can't spell. *growl*

And, a couple of times when I went in to make changes it started adding long lines of html code that I don't want, so I'm stuck with broken links and a whole story in bold and, dammit, it's easier to leave the typos in.

That is exactly what happened with me - the more I tried to fix it the worse it got - and like you, I hate typos. ooh, hang on ..winds back ...you got A03!! yay.

I've been posting exclusively in the old style window and it seems to be working at the moment but it may be that I just haven't noticed the little bastard errors. God I hope not!

I've had no reply to my support request and it pisses me off, especially as I have a paid account.

Grr. No doubt this will be channelled into nasty, dark, angry fic ..

Okay, well I'm sad that you and I are faced with unfixable typos because that drives me crazy and generally all-around sucks.

OTH, the thought of nasty, dark, angry fic from Annie makes Kitty shiver with anticipation.
*purr*

(Winding back with you, I'm stupidly excited about having an AO3 account :)
